Covering nearly 325,000 sq km, Barkly Regional Council is Australia's second largest local government area and home to 8,100 residents with a central administration and population hub located at Tennant Creek and the surrounding district and outstations.

About the role

Lead and facilitate the development, implementation and monitoring of Workplace Health and Safety processes. Further, to develop effective workplace relationships that support the implementation of these processes through training and mentoring of staff.

Duties include:

  • Develop, implement and maintain Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure Council's compliance with legislative requirements and facilitate their administration across the organisation.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and review emergency response, fire, and first aid procedures for all Shire workplaces.
  • Develop relevant forms to be utilised across the organisation to support the policies and procedures.
  • Analyse WHS performance; provide direction to management to minimise risk and achieve improvement opportunities.
  • Provide critical WHS advice across the organisation.
  • Conduct WHS audits, and risk assessments and report on findings to senior management.
  • Lead accident/incident investigation processes, including reviewing all incident reports and act upon any WHS ramifications.

About you

We are looking for someone who can challenge the status quo and has relevant tertiary qualifications or experience pertinent to Workplace Health and Safety management. A current Certificate IV Workplace Health and Safety and/or equivalent qualifications/experience.

Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and auditing of WHS policies, and procedures
