We are recruiting a qualified and enthusiastic person to be a full-time Lifeguard at the Tennant Creek Swimming Pool. Reporting to the Swimming Pool Coordinator, the role of the lifeguard is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the visitors to the facility, whilst assisting the Pool Manager with the facilities operations. As a lifeguard, you will be responsible for offering a high level of customer service to all patrons.

Some key responsibilities:

  • Patrol the pool area and be alert for emergencies
  • Take appropriate action in the event of an emergency or in any circumstances which could endanger the well-being of any person
  • Assist with preparation of the pool before the beginning and end of the swimming season
  • Keep storage areas, toilets, and other facilities within the pool complex clean and tidy at all times
  • Immediately report any deterioration and damage to the plant, pool, buildings or grounds, or any other identified hazard and, if necessary, advise the need to close the pool to the public
  • Assist with maintenance, ready access, and conspicuous display of all appliances for life-saving and resuscitation equipment and signage
  • Set up and pack away aquatic equipment, as required
  • Ensure delivery of exceptional customer service for Council's customers and staff
  • Ensure accurate recording and reporting of all accidents, incidents, and customer complaints
  • Ensure behaviour of all customers is conducive to a safe and enjoyable leisure experience for all facility users

Essential criteria:

  • Experience in lifeguard practices, water safety principles, and crowd control
  • Knowledge of current Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) principles
  • A professional and courteous approach, excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask in a busy environment
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Current Working With Children card (or the ability to obtain)
  • First Aid and Resuscitation certificates
  • SLSA Bronze Medallion/Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
  • Be able to work flexible hours, seven days a week including Public Holidays
